Relaxing weekend in the heart of the Haute Vallée de l’Aude in a small corner of southern France typical and authentic which is worth the detour. Period January, February, March according to the dates of the carnival which can vary from one year to another. (from 27th January 2019 to 7th of April 2019)

DAY 1 Saturday

Arrival at your 3 * hotel at 2:30 pm Make yourself comfortable in your rooms. Then discover a tasting cellar in the area where you will meet a wine producer from Limoux, known for its delicious sparkling wines, actually a true ancestor of champagne … Enjoy a tasting as well as a cellar visit, where the fabulous history of this wine as well as some secrets of manufacture will be told you. (depending on availability, the winery can be up to 20 km from your hotel). You can then stroll through the narrow streets of Limoux and its central square to discover the local shops such as Maison Vaquié where you will find delicious home-made charcuterie, not to mention the Bor house where Nougat is made. artisanal way (15 Avenue Fabre d’Eglantine).

7:30 pm Aperitif and tasting of a gourmet meal served with local wines.

Nocturnal outing of a carnival band not to miss at 10 pm on the central square of limoux. The Carnival of Limoux continues for 400 years and is known to be the “longest carnival in the world” since January to March, every Saturday and Sunday and the mardi gras, the “Fecos” and “Goudils” (masked people) ), accompanied by traditional music, dance from one café to another between the medieval arcades of the Place de la République, taking you into a whirlwind of festivities and typical limousine music.Folklore in its pure state, the spectator Here is an active element of improvised comedy: no procession in this carnival, but a vast coded comedy with rules transmitted from generation to generation. DAY 2 Sunday

Breakfast at your hotel.

Enjoy a new carnival outing at 11 am this time in the middle of the day and then have lunch in the restaurant of your choice in the city center.

At the beginning of the afternoon, a new tasting of sparkling wines in a domain or a cellar different from that of the day before awaits you. We recommend you then visit the Abbey of St Hilaire 20 minutes from Limoux, it is here that the history of the blanquette Limoux began in the 16th century … Cradle of the Blanquette of Limoux, this former fortified Benedictine Abbey, dating from the 8th century, is composed of a Gothic cloister serving the Romanesque church, an abbey dwelling, refectories and cellars.
