In 1620, under the reign of Louis XIII, Bernard de Pennautier, Treasurer of the States of Languedoc, laid the first stone of a château which had the privilege of receiving the king in 1622 and is still one of the finest buildings in the region, set just 5 km from the famous ciudad de Carcasona de del Canal du Midi, , both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Strongly inspired by the style of Versailles – a vast palace opening out to a magnificent view – it has been altered on several occasions, in particular when it was extended in 1670 by el arquitecto Le Vau, who was at the same time building the Orangery at Versailles. The grounds, laid out in formal gardens by the landscape designer Le Nôtre, still cover the same 30 hectares as when the château was built.
Ancient furniture and decoration that respects the site’s 17th-century history with fabrics from the greatest manufacturers (Braquenié, Lelièvre, Pierre Frey, Nobilis, Deddar, Farrow & Ball). The period furniture comes from the family collections.
